I recommend you use the colourise app , which uses AI to colourise black and white portraits. It'll make your portraits looks better

The event tree shown is very simple. 

 

You have to make a bigger develop, just choosing "who do you want to ally with?" and instantly increasing relations +50 with a country makes no sense. 

 

Its hard to make a good development, you can use the Age of Imperialism model. If you don't know this model i recommend you to try this mod and see it, very worth it. The mod seems promising.
