Age of History 3

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Throughout history, countries changed their laws which have been in some cases extremely significant like the abolishment of slavery (Abolition of Slavery Act of 1833) or the introduction of compulsory schooling (Education Act 1880).

The point I'm making is that changes in laws directly influenced how the world is throughout history and would be beneficial to have in Age of History 3 as a brilliant feature.

Laws should add new ways to play the game and enable the player to have unique playthroughs. Laws should both benefit the player and also apply negative effects directly onto the player, adding extra challenge to face against.

Laws could be separated into multiple categories like: Administration Laws, Economy Laws and, Civil Laws.

Let us begin with Administration Laws. Administration laws will comprise of laws to do with the governing of your nation. These laws will determine how the player controls their country.  Some examples of administration laws can be:

     1.)  Distribution of Political Power:
This category will involve laws which dictate who in your country is able to influence the politics of your nation.
For example:

Only people that are the official nationals of your country can vote, or the complete opposite, everyone no matter their nationality can vote, meaning if you conquered France as for example Spain, the French people can still vote for the party/president.

It could be that the player wants a complete dictatorship and will choose to enact a law which will forbid any people to vote, and only the council/advisors can vote.

2.) Internal Security of the State:
This category as stated in the name will dictate how the country is protected from within.
For example:

The player can choose to enact a law which will forbid any paramilitary organisations forming (like the Freikorps in Germany after World War 1).

The player can also choose the have a simple dedicated police force, directly funded by the government itself, or even enable military police to deal with unrest.

Moving on from Administration laws to Economic Laws. Economic laws will consist of laws which will determine how the economy is run. For Example:

      1.) Trading Policy:
This category will include laws which govern how the country trades or if it even trades its resources.
Examples may include:

Global trade, allowing the country to trade globally with an open market, which will severely increase the export of resources abroad.

Closed Trade which will completely isolate the state from the global market, relying on local resources.

Protectionism, where the player is able to place tariffs on goods, protecting the domestic supply if in a shortage.

      2.)  Economic System:
This category allows the player to choose the main economic system followed by the country.
Examples are:

1.) State controlled.
2.) Planned Economy.
3.) Corporatism.
4.) Free Monopoly.

Each providing their own positive and negative effects on the country.

Now for the final list of laws - Civil Laws. Civil Laws dictate how a regular citizen lives in a country, their rights and what benefits they get.
Examples are:

         1.) Freedom of Speech:
This category controls and allows what a regular citizen can say in your country. From guaranteed freedom of speech to national censorship, which obviously affects the stability and the quality of life in your state.

         2.) Worker Rights:
This law states what rights a regular worker in your country has. The player may enable the Trade Unions to be legal, directly protecting the rights of a worker in their country, or do the opposite and ban all Trade Unions.

This is all which I wanted to cover for what laws Lukasz may include in the game.

Now, we will discuss how Laws can be enacted. There may be a certain chance of failing and moving onto another stage of the process. The chances are dictated by how supported the law is in your country.

Enactment of Laws can really be done using multiple stages:

Draft = The player chooses the law they want to pass which undergoes a draft where the law is 'discussed' and 'written' by the player's party/advisors.

Debate = Once the law undergoes a draft, it is moved on to the parliament/senate/council where the law will be faced by criticism and support by the governing body.

Enactment = Final stage of the law process, once the law has successfully been let through, it is now enacted which takes some time as the other two stages. When the law has been enacted, the law is present and active in your country.

Thank you for reading, this took me about an hour to write lol
