Maritime boundaries

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi,  I suggest adding maritime boundaries, to have other utilities than just to move. It could bring economic (ressource) bonus, and to prevent border gore. So when we click in a sea province, we will see their claimants.

The possession of sea grants economic benefit in ressources like fish, coral, algae and soil could be taken, for modern time (1880’s), sea like monuments provides tourism, which some countries get rich by, so prestige bonus. Some strategic sea provinces could also bring extra bonuses for trade like straight.

To prevent border gore, civilizations’ armies can’t go to sea provinces who don't “belong” to them. So Tunis can’t declare war on Venice, if other countries didn’t give Tunis access to the Sea to reach his opponent.

If a country sent an army in a sea province who don't belong to them without autorisation, relations between them could deteriorate, or even be a cause for a war.

A sea province could have several claimants for scenarios like 1444, in which many countries had access to the same sea province. Is it possible to remove claimants to X years by peace treaty, and maybe if a vassal could have access to the sea.

Could be modifiable and turned off.

Now that's a brilliant idea, even cod wars can be implemented that way. It might be complicated, but I like the concept itself 👍

Also, regions could have some usefulness, we can allow only civilization to adopt colonial laws located in these regions : Iberia, British Isles, France, Benelux, Germany...

It could be edited, and we can also set the economy, wars probability (put 0% for Switzerland), etc...

Good question !

Since Łukasz himself said that there will be different tech tree, all civilizations located in Asia (capital), could not adopt colonial laws. This could be disabled, to make some alternate scenarios.

When did Lukasz say that?

I do not think that is the case

hm, but what will happen when in war? will those be transferred automatically or through points?

There could be 2 options. The first one is to have access to one or several enemy's sea provinces, so sharing with it, and the second one is to exclude the enemy the access of his sea province. This could be automatic only the enemy becomes a landlocked country.

Example Bosnia lose it's coastline, Bosnia would automatically lose access to the sea by Croatia.

i disagree, i think you shouldn't be able to landlock countries unless you have the point's to take their sea borders also to balance things, i also think that sea borders should be taken by points in peace treaties which would be interesting, BUT at the same time, if you win a decisive victory you don't have to spend points on maritime provinces, you just have to take the shore provinces or annex all the land

You're right, but I mean that when a country becomes landlocked, logically, it can't have sea access. Maybe make sea provinces connected with coastal provinces ?

that wouldn't make sense for the atlantic and pacific oceans + the entire purpose of this is to prevent colonial bordergore which would be removed since u won't have any shores when you start colonizing

First of all, I previously said that Atlantic and Pacific oceans would be neutral, so every country which possess a sea province in these sea can bypass it.

Secondly, the purpose in not only to avoid colonial border gore, it's to make trade more realistic, when we pass trough another country sea province. Why would Russian ships trade with Germany, by pass to Nordic sea ? Russia must have Norway's permission, to travel ships. Norway will earn money from Russian and Germany. (or just Russia)

It will also bring a high risk for war, when a country violate without permission another country's sea territory. Turkey declare war on Egypt, it must have the permission of Greece or Cyprus to be able to pass by their area.

And it will bring sea resources like crabs, fish and will work like land resource.

Interesting idea 👍 I think for it to be well implemented a lot more sea provinces need to be added
