The Downfall System - An Idea For AOH3

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

What's the most annoying thing about paradox games? When you Ask any player, the answer will be clear: Blobbing, after a while, the map goes from hundreds of civilizations to just 7 larping the whole world, pretty much, It snowballs into an unrealistic and ugly experience with no challenge at all unlike real history where empires tended to implode as soon as they get too big or advanced, this system is non existent IN ANY AND EVERY paradox/grand strategy game (except for maybe CK3 but it sucks there too and doesn't fit AOH3)

so, i came up with a solution to this big problem, THE IMPERIAL DOWNFALL SYSTEM!

This system would guarantee that No civilization can hold on to a piece of land forever, This can be done through a mixture of many things, most notably rebellions

The idea is: After The Age Of Discovery is Over, Unrest will SKYROCKET and Rebellions will occur much more easily and commonly and be much much harder to quell or put down, this is because rebels in this period and the other periods will have a super OP Battle Strategy Known As: Guerilla warfare

Guerilla warfare has +15 defense when fighting in big cities and +2 offense

The Disadvantage is that this can only be used on rebellion territory and can't be used to march into other territories and occupy them

The Moment the Civilization Gains Independence It Loses this strategy as a useable one, why? Because Now Rebellion Ideology Will Be Replaced with Multiple variant Ideologies for different rebel types:

-Revolutionist Rebellion

This Rebellion type Aims to change the ideology of the region into A New One, this One Wins Automatically Upon Controlling the Capital, Changing the Ideology Into the one they wanted

-Separatist Rebellion

This Is The Guerilla Warfare One, It Will Mostly Occur After The Age Of Discovery And Usually it will become either a Monarchy Automatically or a Democracy/Republic, If This Rebellion Succeeds ALL non Rebel Cores Are removed from the Provinces and thus they Quickly Assimilate

The Second Type Might Be Confusing to name After the Rebellion, Which is Why I Wrote A Topic On This (The Rebel Names)

After a rebellion succeeds, The Relations Are Negative with the independent states

Previously we were shown that Civs are divided into Groups that make no difference for game but exist to be able to create more realistic and region specific leader, general, and advisor portraits/names, but this, now an independent civ in the modern period will automatically take the name of the region it is on, this will happen by adding a map mode with certain regions (serbia, croatia, egypt, syria etc) which will create a vague map based on the modern borders while removing regions like north korea and joining them with the south as just korea

This while combining the Dark Ages post i had made, you would have a PERFECT system

Victoria 2 sorta has a system similar to this, although your empire doesn't implode. but everyone cuts you down to size, which will then implode you. This is why every victoria 2 multiplayer game sort of has an "infamy economy" of small player nations willing to burn infamy for larger player nations. The victoria 2 infamy system is quite good at what it does.
The issue with a system like this, is that it's too unfair to the player, a system has to feel fair for it to be implemented.

I Mean to be Honest it often wasn't fair for the empires either, and this system maybe could be countered through economic, political and military initiatives such as building factories and changing ideology from monarchy to constitutional monarchy, slowing down the debuffs bit by bit, this will add an actual  challenge and flavour to the end game, and history wasn't very fair either, not holding on to an empire forever seems pretty realistic and maybe you could even have some sort of neo colonialist pacts that allow you a right to the independent nations resources

    • Campaign: Small Scenarios
In this topic, share your ideas for Campaign scenarios.

These scenarios focus on a small part of the map, with the rest designated as wasteland.

For example, a scenario of the Reconquista in 1054, where gameplay takes place only on the Iberian Peninsula.

What are your ideas for small historical scenarios?

    • Events - Common events for every civilization in the game
      Hi,
in this topic, I am interested in your ideas for events that can happen for every Civilization in the game.
I'm also interested in Missions for every Civilization.

Here is some example, have more than 10k army, have more than 5000 gold, build 10 buildings, recruit an Advisor, increase tax efficiency 20 times, be largest  producer of some resource in the world, unlock 5 Civilization legacies etc.

    • Land units - Ideas AoH3
AoH3 will have different types of land units.

In this topic we will write ideas for new land units.

So the AoH 3 will have new battle system.

Representation of the battlefield in the game.

Land units will be grouped into 3 types. Each unit will have a different recruitment cost, attack, defense, movement speed and upkeep.

Groups determine the placement of units on the battlefield.

Each unit can be unlocked by researching technology and then upgraded.

Here is the current list of units with upgrades:

      First line:

Warrior -> Light Footmen -> Heavy Infantry -> Infantry -> Line Infantry -> Modern Infantry

Hoplites -> Spearmen -> Pikeman -> Elite Pikeman -> Musketeer -> Riflemen -> Mechanized Infantry -> Modern Mechanized Infantry

      First line side:

Horseman -> Elite Horseman -> Cavalry -> Tank -> Modern Tank

      Second line:

Archer -> Bowmen -> Crossbowman -> Elite Crossbowman

Canon -> Field Cannon -> Artillery -> Modern Artillery

Early Airplane -> Airplane -> Modern Airplane

This is a very early version, so maybe something should be changed?

Or maybe an idea for a new type of unit with upgrades? I'm waiting for your suggestions.
