What is the point of optimization regions?

My idea is that the game divides regions for a more convenient rendering of provinces (I did not notice the effect on other parameters).

Let's say there is a map for 14,000 provinces and 1000, in a map with a large number there will be a large number of optimization regions, although it is not entirely clear how the game itself exposes them.

Well, this follows from the name of this function.
