Hello,

We all know that vassals are now improved in AoH3, with the possibility to increase or decrease tribute and manpower, and whenever the vassal can declare war or can’t. But Łukasz, you could go further, by adding subjects. Subject is a larger term for vassals that could include other historical types.

Some subjects must be seen as a government and others more like a special attribution. All will be present in the subject tab, but some would also represent the government.

3E3NI3EB.thumb.jpg.ae53888deb73ecd4973e0aa3058e6185.jpg

How each subject will work :

Autonomy is an administrative division or internal territory of a sovereign state that has a degree of autonomy and self-governance, under the national governmentUnlike vassals, autonomy will be divided with the sovereign by a gray border.

Screenshot2024-06-0318_40_45.png.d14b05019d6942fd94d79d8a9ac567eb.png

Colony is a country or area under the full or partial political control of another country and occupied by settlers from that country. These colonized people will be sidelined by settlers, it will reduce the potential of these provinces, increasing the liberty desire and the risk of rebellionColonies shall be divided between them and the settlers by a white border.

WW1africa.thumb.png.1a688e3e694524f95a806e854a858718.png

A puppet is a state that is dependent upon an outside power and subject to its orders. Puppet states have nominal sovereignty, except that a foreign power effectively exercises control through economic or military support. Puppet states are forced into legally endorsing actions already taken by a foreign power. Puppets will have their own civilization color.

Dominion is a self-governing country of the British Empire. Progressing from colonies, their degrees of colonial self-governance increased unevenly over the late 19th century through the 1930s. No special border attribution needed.

Protectorate is constituting one of the forms of colonial subjection. It differs from pure and simple colonization in that existing institutions, including nationality, are exercised on a formal level, with the protective state assuming management of diplomacy, foreign trade and possibly the army of the State under protectorate.

Vassals have a mutual obligation to a lord or monarch, in the context of the feudal system in medieval Europe. The obligations of a vassal often included military support by knights in exchange for certain privileges, usually including land held as a tenant or fief.

A Personal Union is a relationship between two or more political entities that are considered separate sovereign states, but which, by law or contract, have the same person as their head of state. In law, this is not a real union of territories. Personal unions won’t have the same civilization color, but will be united wit the sovereign by a "sphere of influence" type of border (aside of HRE).

Example : Archduchy of Austria aside of HRE

Each subject could upgrade or downgrade, it means that they are not static and stay the same for centuries, because vassals in 2024 are not logical

Slide1.thumb.jpg.74c635c93bc0dd908c9f1662d00009e5.jpg

Some ideologies, or even special civilizations could rename automatically some of the subjects names for more immersion, it would work like leaders for each government. This doesn't change anything except the name, of course.

Example for German Reich :

  • Autonomy = General Government
  • Protectorate = Reichprotectorat
  • Dominion = Satellite
  • Colony = Reichskolonie
  • Puppet = Reichkommisariat

Liberty's desire, as it was in AoH2, is the mechanic for vassals to become independent. To upgrade this feature, it must have more ways to increase and decrease liberty desire.

Slide1.thumb.jpg.b9646523c64f6b085e3b08bfa4268a5d.jpg

This is a very long topic, and I have taken time for it so any correction would be granted. (This topic isn't meant to force anything, if it is too complex, I can simplified it)

also for japan it would be imperial protectorates, dont forget lol

Adding that vassal flag applies only for colonies, protectorates, puppets and dominion. But it could be turned off in modern time for modern dominion such as Canada, even if it doesn't use this term in current days, it is still a dominion. There may be some exceptions, I don't know

Vassal flags in 2024 may be awkward, and why do we call it vassal flags if vassals don't have this option ?🤔

Amazing work, comrade! An amazing innovation for much deeper roleplaying of various non-unitary state formations.

Soviet Union, colonial empires, federations, countries with feudal fragmentation, etc., etc.

The role-playing game of our dreams!

Last but not least, having any subject in modern time is frowned upon. So there will have a diplomatic rupture with some countries if the country possesses one.

This is a very long topic, and I have taken time for it so any correction would be granted. (This topic isn't meant to force anything, if it is too complex, I can simplified it)

HRE and Autria.png

I think that dividing by dates is illogical. For example, the Swedish-Norwegian Union existed until 1905, and at the moment more than a dozen Commonwealth Kingdoms (not counting possessions such as the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey, Akrotiri and Dhekelia, etc.) are de facto uniates of the British Crown (formally they have their own Crown as a legal entity, but the British monarchs are there by the heads of state)

In addition, a personal union can be inherited over time (for example, the possessions of the Duke of Burgundy in the 15th century).

Personally, I would single out the subjects in only four categories:

1) Vassal itself. Such as it is presented in the game now (perhaps it can be annexed by the suzerain after 15-20 years in the event of the death of the vassal monarch)

2) The appanage. It can be both a form of autonomy and a separate game mechanic for European powers (especially France and Rus). By allocating appanages, for example, the player can reduce the risk of rebellion, and also receive a trading bonus. The appanages also give part of the manpower to the overlord. Appanages can be inherited after 10-20 years, while all appanage territories are initially the cores of the overlord. Can declare wars. In turn, having defeated the suzerain, the appanage can annex it (possibly then forming it again)

3) Tributary state (perhaps in later ages they may be renamed dominions, and for countries with Turkic culture - eyalets. If combine this with the mechanics of diplomatic recognition that I proposed previously, then for recognized powers this type of entity is called a dominion, and for unrecognized ones it's called a tributary). They only pay a small tribute, they cannot be drafted into the war. Gives a small part of the menpower.

4) Personal union. Cannot be called into the war (but gives a small part of the menpower to the suzerain), pays nothing, gives the suzerain a bonus to trade, can be inherited many years later. At the same time, over time, in the case of the death of the monarch (he must die simultaneously in both countries, which complicates the mechanics), the union can be terminated (it can also be terminated by war). Unlike appanage, the provinces of a personal union become cores only upon inheritance.

Only an ordinary vassal can be prohibited from declaring wars.

As for the subject "autonomy", instead it would be more logical to add a new category of laws responsible for the form of administrative-territorial organization: free city => unitary state => partially autonomous state (i.e. unitary, but having autonomous part, for example, the modern PRC and the Yugoslav Kingdom in the late 30s) => federation => a trade confederation (in fact, several free cities united by a common army, like the Hanseatic League, which, however, was not a single state. Another example is the Livonian Order).

When I wanted to divide by time, it is because vassals in 2024. For personal union, now I see there were later, I will change that. What about colonies, puppet and autonomy, should we remove it ? It is better not, for modern scenarios. And I like the idea of appanage too

Colonies are essentially identical to vassals (as are puppets). Perhaps it would be logical to add a renaming of the status depending on the era and on the status of the suzerain and vassal powers (which makes it more logical, but requires the mechanics of diplomatic recognition. For example, if the game time is after 1700, then the status of vassals of a recognized suzerain will be renamed: recognized vassals of a recognized power become puppets, and unrecognized vassals of a recognized power become colonies). Nothing in game mechanics will be changed, only one text line will be replaced by another.

Each subject could upgrade or downgrade, it means that they are not static and stay the same for centuries, because vassals in 2024 are not logical

    • Campaign: Small Scenarios
In this topic, share your ideas for Campaign scenarios.

These scenarios focus on a small part of the map, with the rest designated as wasteland.

For example, a scenario of the Reconquista in 1054, where gameplay takes place only on the Iberian Peninsula.

What are your ideas for small historical scenarios?

    • Events - Common events for every civilization in the game
      Hi,
in this topic, I am interested in your ideas for events that can happen for every Civilization in the game.
I'm also interested in Missions for every Civilization.

Here is some example, have more than 10k army, have more than 5000 gold, build 10 buildings, recruit an Advisor, increase tax efficiency 20 times, be largest  producer of some resource in the world, unlock 5 Civilization legacies etc.

    • Land units - Ideas AoH3
AoH3 will have different types of land units.

In this topic we will write ideas for new land units.

So the AoH 3 will have new battle system.

Representation of the battlefield in the game.

Land units will be grouped into 3 types. Each unit will have a different recruitment cost, attack, defense, movement speed and upkeep.

Groups determine the placement of units on the battlefield.

Each unit can be unlocked by researching technology and then upgraded.

Here is the current list of units with upgrades:

      First line:

Warrior -> Light Footmen -> Heavy Infantry -> Infantry -> Line Infantry -> Modern Infantry

Hoplites -> Spearmen -> Pikeman -> Elite Pikeman -> Musketeer -> Riflemen -> Mechanized Infantry -> Modern Mechanized Infantry

      First line side:

Horseman -> Elite Horseman -> Cavalry -> Tank -> Modern Tank

      Second line:

Archer -> Bowmen -> Crossbowman -> Elite Crossbowman

Canon -> Field Cannon -> Artillery -> Modern Artillery

Early Airplane -> Airplane -> Modern Airplane

This is a very early version, so maybe something should be changed?

Or maybe an idea for a new type of unit with upgrades? I'm waiting for your suggestions.
