Suggestion : Army (Topic still into potential improvement)

Good to see you all. It's a pleasure to introduce the brief concerns about the army.

Manpower transfer

The subject will be able to mobilize its people to find an army, but at the same time, the subject must separate a part of its army to be attributed to the lord, according to the option. The separated division will appear with the lord flag.

The main aim of it is to limit the subject's military power, to avoid a possible rebellion. This option will make some subject types such as some personal union, colonies and more. At least to weaken it.

There will be 5 options instead of only 3 (can be also fit with tribute):

  • No (0%)
  • Low (25%)
  • Medium (50%)
  • High (75%)
  • All (100%)

I am aware that for now we can make our vassals give us all manpower and all tribute at the same time, so I propose to make it possible, but that will give high penalties. It is better to give the choice to the player, but he must think several times before.

Here's the effect on the subject according to the option:

A showcase for Manpower transfer:

Transylvania wants to build an army, it can do it freely (AI).

Since its lord Hungary chooses Medium Manpower Transfer, Transylvania should give 50% of its men.

After the division in the Transylvanian army, the Hungarian regiment can integrate one of its existing regiments (Optional). Or just move into Hungarian land.

Ai War Mechanic

This is a thing I sometimes thought about before but don't really take this into consideration is how the Ai army should work in war. So, in war, Ai would often have the choice between siege a province, attack the foe's army or retreat.

This will be based from 3 factors:

  • The army morale and exhaustion.
  • How far is the opponent.
  • The province status (if the province is a village, a small city, a big city or a capital city).

Siege a province option will be chosen when the army morale when the army morale is normal (or better), and the enemy is far away (from 4 provinces). If one of the provinces is a great city, the Ai will more likely siege this province.

Attack option will be chosen when the army morale is high and the enemy is near (below 4 provinces).

Retreat option will be chosen when the army morale is low, and the enemy is in one of its adjacent provinces. The probability that Ai retreat will be between 30 and 50%.

Finally, when the player sieges a village, the surrounding provinces will occupy only adjacent villages but when a major city and the capital is occupied, the surrounding provinces would be occupied, except if the enemy's army is in one of them.

The occupation process will vary according to the province status:

village - - - - > small city - - - - > major city - - - - > capital city

50% - - - - > 75% - - - - > 100% - - - - > 125%

Train the Army

Now this is an option that should bring a difference in battles: train your army.

Train your army has the aim of increasing morale, discipline and the army efficiency (attack, defense, siege speed). To train the army, the player should select a terrain type, it's recommended to choose a terrain type present in the opponent (before declaring war ofc) and terrain types with debuffs like mountains.

Cities (Urban terrain) are included, it's basically the hardest terrain type for war.

The army can be trained for up to 3 terrain types at once, but it will cost proportionally more.

The training program will be from 6 months to 2 years long. The more the army is trained, the more the victory rate will upgrade.

Stalemate

Stalemate describes a war situation in which neither side can radically alter the front lines, no matter how hard they try. This Idea is not very lead, but it seems interesting for greater scale wars, for example in WW1, let's say when neither front moves during 5 days, instead of a peace treaty, it just will be a stalemate of 2 weeks.

hey, I would also add limits on units in the army. for example army without general 50 unitsarmy

with general 80 army

with marshal 100

thanks to this, you will not have an army of 400-500 units what I wrote is just an example, because I still don't know how many units countries will actually be able to have Regards

Yes, maybe this could be the outcomes of upgrade general ? More competent generals will be able to run a greater army

there would also have to be some limit set

There is already a manpower limit for each country. Do you mean for each division ? Like Austria's manpower limit is 240k men, but only 30k per division
