I had the same issue. I declared a war on one nation, but his ally joined after. So, I was sandwiched managed to occupy them both. And was really disappointed to find out, I couldn't take any territories from the Ally. Nor get some money OR atleast make them pay reparations.

Suggestion:
As @Ilovethisgame2 suggested it would be nice at least to get some compensation for this.
I would personally suggest, that the occupied allied nation (the one which decided to help his ally). Since, it has been beaten completely.
Those suggestions are kept in-mind with the Border gore issue!

A)Choose to be able to get war reparations. (I declared personally war on his ally not on him, so he has to pay for being beaten like his ally.)
B)Choose to Directly get paid stack of money. (Instead of getting money per month like reparation, just getting for example 300 Gold once.)
C)Choose a territory to be gifted to you. As a penalty for joining and losing against you. *( Option C) has 1 or 2 possibilities(ways) this to be managed(creator choice).*
First, For example, If the given Ally has 10 provinces, you get to choose 1 territory or maybe 2. If he has 20 you get to choose 4 to be gifted. Meaning you get 10% or 20% from the overall territories the ally has. I see 20% to be more fair.
OR Second,  Let's say you managed to beat&occupy the whole nation(Angora) that you first started war with.
While, in the meantime you managed to occupy 10 provinces from his Ally(Spain). But the Ally(Spain) has overall 20 provinces.
Since, you occupied every province nation(Angora) has, you're eligible for peace. And for some reason, you don't want to fight his ally anymore too.
Since, the Ally(Spain) lost battles and have been semi-occupied by you (you have 10 from 20 provinces under your control). YOU only get to choose 2 territories,
instead of 4. Because you only occupied 10 from the 20 overall provinces. Meaning you get twenty percent(20%) from what you have occupied.

I personally find the Second option for C), more appropriate(while keeping in mind those 20%). Since when the time comes to fight big nations, and you managed to beat
the first nation that you intended to fight anyways. You atleast can choose between A), B) or C). And If you wish territories(C) instead of money(A or B). Atleast you get something out of what you have occupied and lost soldiers(& time) for. Since, you aren't taking every occupied territory of the Allied nation, but only 20% from what has been already occupied by you.
The Border Gore effect would be definitely minimized!

Moreover, about option C), even if you implement it, and experience and tests from players shows, that contributes to border gore, more than imagined.
It could always be left as an option of choice to be turned off in the main menu, before starting a scenario!

I understand it, but it should be option to turn on or off, just like if you want calling Vassals to the war.

There could be 3 options:

- You can only annex territory of initial enemy

- You can annex territory of initial enemy and its vassals (or if the opponent is a vassal, then the lord and his vassals)

- You can annex territory of all sides in war

This would be fair, I think.

Also maybe there could be a mechanic which allow you to annex Occupied provinces of enemy allies only, so that you can't randomly take provinces your army never went to if it's not your main opponent.

I agree it does prevent it, but I am sure a lot of players as well as myself would like to have this enabled. If you want to leave it as it is at least add something of a gamerule that alows it.

I can understand this. Maybe a solution could be similar to that of EU4, where the you can declare war on countries and make those countries cobelligerents.
Also, if a vassal is being attacked, maybe make it so that its overlord becomes the main participant in the war.

Oh, and for coalition wars, all countries attacking should be considered cobelligerents and as enemies which you can take from.

    • Campaign: Small Scenarios
In this topic, share your ideas for Campaign scenarios.

These scenarios focus on a small part of the map, with the rest designated as wasteland.

For example, a scenario of the Reconquista in 1054, where gameplay takes place only on the Iberian Peninsula.

What are your ideas for small historical scenarios?

      Hi,
in this topic, I am interested in your ideas for events that can happen for every Civilization in the game.
I'm also interested in Missions for every Civilization.

Here is some example, have more than 10k army, have more than 5000 gold, build 10 buildings, recruit an Advisor, increase tax efficiency 20 times, be largest  producer of some resource in the world, unlock 5 Civilization legacies etc.

    • Land units - Ideas AoH3
AoH3 will have different types of land units.

In this topic we will write ideas for new land units.

So the AoH 3 will have new battle system.

Representation of the battlefield in the game.

Land units will be grouped into 3 types. Each unit will have a different recruitment cost, attack, defense, movement speed and upkeep.

Groups determine the placement of units on the battlefield.

Each unit can be unlocked by researching technology and then upgraded.

Here is the current list of units with upgrades:

      First line:

Warrior -> Light Footmen -> Heavy Infantry -> Infantry -> Line Infantry -> Modern Infantry

Hoplites -> Spearmen -> Pikeman -> Elite Pikeman -> Musketeer -> Riflemen -> Mechanized Infantry -> Modern Mechanized Infantry

      First line side:

Horseman -> Elite Horseman -> Cavalry -> Tank -> Modern Tank

      Second line:

Archer -> Bowmen -> Crossbowman -> Elite Crossbowman

Canon -> Field Cannon -> Artillery -> Modern Artillery

Early Airplane -> Airplane -> Modern Airplane

This is a very early version, so maybe something should be changed?

Or maybe an idea for a new type of unit with upgrades? I'm waiting for your suggestions.
