Ideas for a Mod in Age of History 3

1. Issue with Forming the Second Bulgarian Empire

  • Problem: A player controlling Bulgaria in 2024 should not have the ability to form the Second Bulgarian Empire, as historically this state arose after the fall of the First Bulgarian Empire. Logically, after its collapse, the Third Bulgarian Empire should be formed.

  • Proposed Solutions:

    1. The Second Bulgarian Empire can only be formed after the collapse of the First Bulgarian Empire. Players should establish conditions where this possibility is available only within specific timeframes.
    2. If the Second Bulgarian Empire is captured by AI, the player should not immediately lose. Instead, if the capturing country subsequently collapses, the player should re-emerge as Bulgaria, not as the Second Bulgarian Empire, and should only have the option to create the Third Bulgarian Empire.

2. Improvement of Colony Mechanics

  • Problem: The current colony mechanics are underdeveloped, making colonization less engaging compared to other strategy games.

  • Proposed Solutions:

    1. Colonization System: Implement mechanics similar to Europa Universalis IV, allowing players to create colonies with options for trading posts or full-fledged colonies.
    2. Colony Development Dynamics: Introduce a colonization points system for developing colonies, unlocking new technologies and upgrades.
    3. Interaction with Indigenous Peoples: Add mechanics for interacting with indigenous populations, including diplomatic and military options.
    4. Conflicts and Rivalry: Introduce a system for conflicts over colonies, allowing players to wage wars for control and establish peace treaty conditions.

3. Issue with Attacking Ally Countries of Puppets

  • Problem: Players face difficulties when trying to attack a country allied with their puppet, leading to the loss of control over the puppet.

  • Proposed Solutions:

    1. Puppet Preference: If the rebellion chance of the puppet is at 0%, they should prioritize the player over their ally.
    2. Limiting Puppet Autonomy: Puppets should not be able to form alliances or guarantee the independence of other countries on their own.

4. Improvement of Game Speed Visibility

  • Problem: The speed bars (1-5) under the year counter are indistinguishable, especially on different monitors.

  • Proposed Solutions:

    1. Change the color of the speed bars to a more contrasting one to improve visibility and perception by players.

5. Options Before Starting a Scenario

  • Problem: Players want more control over their gaming experience.

  • Proposed Solutions:

    1. Introduce options for "Ironman": one save slot, and the ability to choose console availability.
