Agressive Expansion and Coalitions

Recommended Posts

Coalitions should be hard to defend but still manageable. This is not the case in the game however. If you're a small country in the early game and you have just a few neighbours, you're not attacked by a large force but you're broke and you cant afford to have enough army to defend yourself. If you're a large country in late game that has more prestige than the remaining top 5 combined, you have a ton of neighbours and even though you have a lot of money and a high regiment limit, your neighbours always have more. There's no point in the game that beating coalitions is a manageable task. Except maybe getting lucky a few times. It shouldn't be this way but if this is how you envisioned the game then okay. Then, we should be able to get rid of our agressive expansion much faster. There should be a way to affect its decay more, even with maxed out advantages and legacy, we get too many agressive expansion points and lose too few of it. Maybe this is for balancing the npcs but you can always add player only features to not affect the overall balancing.

In short, we need to be able to achieve more agressive expansion decay or have much more regiments once we get stronger or the coalitions should be rebalanced.

The problems I have are

1. when I take little territory the aggressive expansion decreases fast, If I take a lot it never goes down

2. I have all legacies to lower aggressive expansions, and all advancement and still takes forever

3. I will watch the AI take half a country and get like 10 aggressive expansion

The part I disagree with is once i'm number 1 in the world no coalition can really stop me, you say your neighbors have more regiment limit? yes that's true that's why you make quality through upgrading military academies, generals and keeping up with tech, just put armies of AI and it beats coalition every time even with way less units, just a skill issue tbh

When I start from the 1440 scenario or before, I do just destroy everyone in tech and my armies take everyone out thats true. But in a modern world scenario, there isn't much technology ahead of you and they require more tech points so its a lot harder to put a gap between you and the ai. We all just max out at some point. And the player being able to get centuries ahead of the ai in tech is kind of an unbalanced part of the game I think. So you're just using an unbalanced part of the game to fix another unbalanced part of the game. It works but not very elegantly and shouldn't be the intended solution. Instead, we shouldn't be able to outpace the ai that severely in technology but at the same time the agressive expansion and the coalitions should be nerfed. So both parts should be more balanced.

Also this issue is most appearent in scenarios where there are huge nations such as the colonial britain and the soviet union etc. When these guys both get in a coalition against you because you took a land thats maybe 5% of their landmass, that's kinda ridicilous. If you're not a huge nation already, these guys have already outpaced you in tech and manpower and regiment limit plus you're outnumbered because every other one of your neighbours also want a piece of you.

Note: Maybe adding lesser coalitions could fix this. A chance for getting attacked by not all of your neighbours but just 1-2 countries that have similar combined regiment limits to you after 50 agressive expansion and an even harder one after 75 agressive expansion. These would give you an alternative chance to lower your agressive expansion while not being too easy to overcome.
